Cookie cutters aren't just for cookies. Here are two really lovely and delicious finger foods that can make your cookie cutters work overtime.
We're always looking for pretty appetizers this time of year, especially ones that can be made ahead and then wrapped up for travel, or put out when guests arrive. Both of these hors d'oeuvres from Martha Stewart would work well for this, and they're so pretty, too!
Both take advantage of cookie cutters — although the first one can just be sliced with a knife. They each also take a little work, but we think it would be worth it.
• Get the recipe: Mushroom-Polenta Diamonds - At Martha Stewart. These can just be sliced in long rows and diamonds, but you could also use a round cookie cutter to stamp these into first course-sized portions.
• Get the recipe: Squash Leaf Canapés - Also at Martha Stewart. This one really does require cookie cutters, and we really love the special, rather dramatic look of these little bites. And yet they are not difficult at all. Great combo of fall flavors.
Do you have any favorite uses for cookie cutters — besides cookies, of course?

love it!
My grandma growing up had a set of cookie cutters called "sandwich cutters" on the box. But all they were were plain ol cookie cutters. I remember as a girl being so confused why anyone would cut a sandwich into a clover or heart.
Love this idea for holidays. Cookies are always fancy, but appetizers can be as well :)
I found an awesome thing of flea market aspic cutters (there are like 50 of them in the container) for $2 and I've been looking for a use for them. Thanks for this!
Any ideas on how to properly sanitize these tiny cookie cutters in case they were formerly in a rodentized basement or something?
expatine-
soap and hot water or a run through your dishwasher and they should be fine. I've beaten aspic cutters all to hell and they're tough cookies (pun intended)
