Did the arrival of summer catch you by surprise? I felt as though there I was in early May, minding my own business and dreaming about all my summer plans and, all of a sudden, July is days away! Many of these quick growing vegetables can also be kept in containers or, even, deep windowsill gardens. Next all you'll have to worry about is how to cook them come early fall!

• Root vegetables such as kohl rabi, turnips and rutabaga

It's too hot for spinach and peas in most of the country, and probably for the root vegetables as well.
It's going to hit 109 in my town today and that is way too hot to plant anything!!! If we don't have our tomatoes in by the first of April, forget about it. We plant an early spring and fall garden but nothing in the height of summer. Where does this person live who wrote this piece?
Yeah, these are definitely not all things to plant now. You could plant spinach and peas towards the end of summer for a fall harvest, but not this weekend.
Well it looks like the original list was from the UK where I would imagine they don't have super-hot summers!
