Pie Bakeoff 2008 Special Mention: Best Story

Best Pie Bakeoff 2008

Special Mention Award: Best Story Winning Recipe: Edith's Sweet Potato Pie

Voting for the best Original and Classic pies in our Best Pie Bakeoff 2008 has finished, but we wanted to also weigh in editorially with three Special Mention awards.

Read on to see why we awarded this Special Mention to Edith and Leonard and their classic, heartwarming pie! When we first announced this Bakeoff, we invited you to convince us any way you could of the quality of your pie. You could tell a story, sing a song, or share a video. Many of you shared rave reviews from your coworkers and photos of happy pie-eaters.

But this story won our collective heart. Leonard and his mother Edith have been baking this pie for years and years. His story of how his family has taken up baking her pie was heartwarming and just the sort of narrative that belongs to pie.

Congratulations Edith - your prizes will be on their way next week!
