Many of us at The Kitchn hail from small city-sized kitchens and find ourselves quite jealous when we come across a wide open kitchen like that of Philip and Leona. The amount of counter space and room to move around is definitely key (although not necessary) to successfully cooking with a significant other.
We bring up the space being a factor for successfully cooking with a significant other (or roommate) because it's a battle we often find ourselves in in our own homes. It's evident that Philip and Leona don't have this problem because there's plenty of space for them to be working on separate dishes without bumping elbows!
The contrasting colors of the dark wood and white cabinets is really spectacular. The white cabinets are perfectly framed by the original wood work and it actually helps the walls and cabinets in the kitchen really stand out and pop.
Black countertops are a great option for this space because they really bring the room together. Initially we would have thought white countertops would be perfect but black keeps the bright white under control. The bright accessories placed randomly around the kitchen bring in much needed pops of color.
