My husband is a bona fide scientist, so I have a special place in my heart for geeky science projects in the kitchen. The most delightful one that I've seen lately is this growing collection of science cookies from Ms. Humble, the proprietress of Not So Humble Pie. From white lab mice to petri dishes to containment suits, she's baking up quite a few science tropes in cookie form!
I love all the cookies (and cupcakes — check out the jumbo binary cupcakes) in this series. Ms. Humble is quite talented with her pastry bag and apparently accomplished in the physical sciences as well. Here are a few of my favorites, although it was quite difficult to choose favorites!
• Atom Cookies
• Laboratory Mice
• The Periodic Table
• Containment Suits
• Gel Electrophoresis

Fantastic!
I love these so much.
This is amazing! I love the atom cookies (*cries* you can't buy those lovely dragees in California). I think the cleverest ones are the gel electrophoresis ones, though.
Oh, awesome.
I always say there's nothing like coming home from school to be greeted with plate full of warm petri dish cookies...
Thanks for posting--I am soooo making some of these! There are times my kids lament of science teaching background...and this is one of those times. :)
I saw these a while ago, I'm actually surprised that no one thought of this before since a lot of scientists are into food, many of the concepts are quite similar. Well done
My husband is a nuclear engineer and so over the holidays we made the atom cookies to send with him to the office. Unfortunately I don't have professional pastry decorating equipment, and the cut-a-corner-off-a-ziploc-bag technique turned out a little messy. Someone thought they were daisies :(
Such cute ideas though! Ms. Humble is quite gifted!
I *love* those lab mice. Didn't know it was possible for a depiction of a dead mouse to be cute, and yet it is.
Wow, the petri dish ones are so clever, and remarkably realistic looking! The zebrafish and yeast two hybrid ones on her site are pretty amazing as well.
absolutely adorable! love the little suits & petri dishes!
I love, love, love all of them! Periodic Table of Cookies, indeed. Mrs. Humble, can we please have DNA cookies now too? And little beaker-shapes as well?
These are just the cutest! And I have to make the binary and circuit ones for my dad the retired EE from IBM - he will flip! Wonder if I could do a little tiny slide rule...
i love these!
My husband is a scientist-in-training (working on his PhD at the moment). Once he gets his doctorate, I'm seeing a party with these cookies.
super cute. i love the google eyeball look of alarm on the hazmat cookies. heee
