When The Kitchn team reviewed our favorite pepper mills, I was surprised that no one used the PepperMate mill. This efficient little mill with a handy container to catch the pepper has been on my wishlist for years. It's especially useful in the kitchen (as opposed to on the table), where cooks often need to measure pepper in quantities of teaspoons, not grinds.

What kind of cook measures pepper? o.O
I have the same mill! And I do occasionally measure pepper - mostly thanks to this mill. I learned that I'd been waaaay underestimating my pepper grinds!
This may not be for serious cooking with measurements, but it sure makes using pepper more fun. It was on my wedding registry and we did get it!

My boyfriend's parents have the same one. They're older, so the turning part is easier for them.
I've had one for several years and my husband hates it. The grinding mechanism turns but doesn't grind and it makes a very anoying grating sound. It was a great one at first but doesn't last very long.
i've had one for at least 6 years now--it made it through katrina, so pre-september 2005. no problems with the grinder, and haven't noticed any annoying noises. big ups to this gadget!
This is the same one Paula Deen uses on her show isn't it?
Ina Garten has used this on her shows. I have it, too, and love to use it when a recipe calls for a large amount of pepper. It's much faster than using a regular pepper grinder.
