Pantry Organization: DIY Oilcloth Trays

We always keep an eye out for simple and creative ways to keep the contents of our pantry organized. And so when we saw a post over on the Apartment Therapy main site mentioning DIY oilcloth pet dishes, we looked past the cute kitten and saw possibility...Oilcloth is fantastic because it's very easy to clean and it comes in an array of bright, vibrant colors. We would love to open our kitchen cupboards and see all these great colors and designs smiling out at us!

The tutorial for the pet dishes comes to us from CraftStylish, a great resource for many great DIY projects:

The dish template given in the tutorial would be great for storing small jars and condiments. The small tray could be easily transfered between table and cupboard, and spills or the inevitable sticky rings left by the jars can be easily wiped off the oil cloth.

This smaller template could be easily scaled up to hold larger pantry items like sacks of flour or canned goods.

If the oilcloth tray feels too flimsy, you could line the inside with a piece of cardboard, which could be recycled once it gets dingy. You might also be able to insert a piece of cardboard between the layers of oil cloth.

Oilcloth Addict has a fantastic selection of oilcloth on their Etsy site, including - get this - chalkboard oilcloth! Oh goodness!
