Olive oil is not something that gets used in my kitchen lightly: I use it in practically everything I cook, and I cook a lot. Still, I'm always shocked just how quickly I can get through a bottle — and by how expensive my olive oil habit can be.

I've long been on the hunt for a bottle from the grocery store that I can use every day without fail — one that delivers a mild, peppery flavor and won't destroy my grocery store bill. After much searching, I finally found the bottle that delivers all of this and more.

The best grocery store olive oil is California Olive Ranch Everyday Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

A bottle of California Olive Ranch Everyday Extra Virgin Olive Oil is never missing from my pantry. The fact that it's produced and bottled in the United States is what drew me in at first, but its versatility is what keeps me going back for more. This is the bottle I reach for each and every night I start cooking. I use it for pan-frying, roasting vegetables, and even baking into ridiculously moist cakes.

It has a great, buttery taste that delivers just the right amount of peppery kick, so it never competes with what I am cooking. Plus, while I usually lean towards a stronger-flavored finishing olive oil for salads and bread dunking, if I happen to be out of it, I can confidently reach for the California Olive Ranch bottle.

What's better? This is a high-quality olive oil that won't break the bank. Prices range from store to store, but I've seen a 750-milliliter bottle for as low as $8.99 online and on sale at my dad's grocery store in the suburbs and as high as $16.99 at my local Whole Foods.

Yes, it's a little more expensive than other omnipresent brands on shelves that claim to be from somewhere in Italy (but are more than likely not), but what you're getting is quality, consistency, and the knowledge of exactly where your olive oil came from. For me, as someone who uses olive oil multiple times a day in my cooking, those are the values that are important to me.

So I encourage you to give this oil a try. You might just end up getting hooked like I am.
