For the last several months my husband and I have been working in a rather makeshift kitchen. We have two metal baker's racks that we use to store all of our dishes and bakeware, along with our food. Since they're currently the only storage we have and tabletop space is limited, we've been making our racking pull double duty — and will continue to do so even when we have proper cabinets!
Out of desperation one day I started to hang the long tongs on our bakers rack. You see, we have one utensil crock and more utensils than will fit in it. We also have a small basket that holds our regular silverware, but between the two, we have important items that just don't have a home.
So the idea started with tongs but has since gone on to other items that are always a little awkward in your kitchen drawer. Next up we placed the measuring cups on and even measuring spoons. Then came the can opener, bench scrapers and then the meat thermometer.
Below the items, we placed our seasoning bin that slides in and out so we aren't stabbing ourselves with the items stores above. They're ridiculously easy to grab when you need them and no longer do we have to play that game where you try to see how many long handled utensils you can cram in your crock (which is a fun phrase to say). Do you have an unusual kitchen storage tip? Let us know below!

Oh. My. GOURD. This is so simple, and I'm absolutely going to try it. Utensil crocks take up a decent chunk of the small counters in our teeny-tiny kitchen.
ok i lurve you. i have that exact rack and need to do this with my measuring cups. for some reason the ikea measuring cups all have different length handles so that you can't hang them nested.
S hooks work great on the bakers rack too, i use it in front of the shelves of stuff that we dont use everyday. and along the sides.
I second the S hooks - I have my apron, oven mitts, pans, etc. hanging off my rack with these.
I'll keep this in mind too when I rip my kitchen out and have to set up a make-shift one.
I have a similar setup and echo the S-hook recommendation. I have found that larger lids can be stood up in between the wires at the back of the shelf without falling through, thus preventing pots from sliding off and allowing easier stacking.
Also, on the opposite side from utensils, I tied (using cooking twine) a basic spice rack for easy access to herbs & spices.
I really don't know what I'd do without my bakers' racks in my kitchen! I've purchased a bunch of s hooks from the hardware store and use them to hang utensils.
I use the s-hooks & hang my cast iron pans at the ends of shelves. They take up almost NO space that way and I can have them at a height that isn't too high or too low to move easily. I also hang my giant roasting pan on one end - it's got a hook to the handle that seems made to go on my open wire shelves!
S-hooks are great, but this simple trick will allow me to store more, including tools that don't have hangable ends, and to use more of the tiny available space.
I love my baker's rack, I don't know what I'd do without it! We use S-hooks for dishtowels. Fortunately we have enough drawer space and a large utensil crock for our utensils, but if we didn't, they would definitely be hanging on the rack just like this!!
I, too, love my baker's racks in my kitchen. I have clip on hooks that are made to fit on InterMetro shelves that I picked up from the Container Store that work great on my shelves (I don't have InterMetro shelves, but similar versions from IKEA and Home Depot).
They have a lot of other accessories for the shelves as well (baskets, towel racks, shelf liners, etc.) and I know you can also find them on Amazon and other sites.

I hang things off the ends of my kitchen door handles, like a couple of sets of measuring spoons and kitchen towels (the latter with the aid of small clip hooks from Lakeland), and have a handful of the IKEA s-hooks for anything else.
Wow, what a great idea and so simple too. I also like the s-hook suggestions. I just love that industrial/restaurant kitchen look.
