Where do you go when you're searching for cookie recipes? Martha? Gourmet? Each other? We just found another source—a company we trust for many basic ingredients that turns out to have a very impressive cache of cookie recipes. We feel like we just stumbled upon a Christmas cookie goldmine.
King Arthur Flour sells (surprise!) flour as well as myriad baking ingredients, specialty pans, and mixes. We buy their organic, all-purpose flour all the time, and we knew they had a very helpful website, but we'd never gone digging specifically for cookies.
Well. There are more than a hundred recipes for cookies and bars, including a lot of whoopie pies, plus separate categories for biscotti, shortbread, and roll-out cookies.
As we've noted before, King Arthur also carries a lot of gluten-free flours, and there are plenty of gluten-free cookie recipes, too.
Above are five cookies that looked especially good to us for the holidays...
• 1. Almond Cloud Cookies
• 2. Coal Cookies (These would be so cute in a stocking!)
• 3. Salted Caramel Cookie Bites
• 4. Double-Shot Mocha Chunks
• 5. Eggnog Cookies
• See the Whole Cookies & Bars Category

One of my favorite places to go for recipes and how-to's. Their blog is informative, and it's fun to read all the comments. I ~heart~ KAF!
Me too, I love the KAF website - particularly the "KAF Guaranteed" recipes. They're foolproof - no joke. I've been plowing through the bread recipes & my family has been thanking me ever since!
Plus, it's a great source for those awesome "bake and give" paper pans - I'm using them for holiday gifts this year.
I love this website and find that they are a great resource for foolproof recipes. I also love the online chat function as it allows me to get any unanswered questions answered quickly by one of their baking experts.
The girls over at KAF have great recipes and good step by step walk throughs if you're not comfortable. They even show all their mistakes, which is fun from time to time!
I admit for basic recipes, first place I'll look is http://www.joyofbaking.com. They have a simple standard recipe for seemingly everything and has never led me wrong. Great starting off point for experimentation.
I so love their blog with the step by step photos!! Makes me wish I had a computer in my kitchen so I can keep the photos right in front of me.
I usually go on the food network website for recipes, or to Rosie's bakery cookbooks, or Cook's magazine, or varied other sources. I owned the King Arthur Cookie Book, but the problem was that the recipes were pretty consistently not good. It might have been the recipes I hit on, but what I tried didn't work out. I had to get rid of the book eventually because it was just so sad to try another and have it not be good.
I like the cookie category but I like the muffin category even better.
This is funny, I just turned to the KA flour website this afternoon after getting so frustrated with the lack of navigability of the Martha Stewart website. MS also had a lot of recipes with really awful reviews, and I've found that the KA flour recipes usually have good reviews and the authors will respond with helpful comments if someone has an issue with something. I also stole some of my sister's back issues of KA Flour's "Baking Sheet" (I think that's what it's called) - 6 issues a year full of awesome recipes - great reading, and the ones I have tried have been really good. I was thinking about asking for a subsciption for xmas, but then realized I wouldn't be able to resist baking sweets from it all the time!
KAF has rockin' recipes, and don't stop at the cookie section. If you love rich soups, and are willing to invest some time, check out the Mushroom Bisque. Tastes like something you'd pay way too much for in a restaurant!

Oh, that's exciting! I'll have to check it out.
My favorite cookie recipes are from America's Test Kitchen.
