Whenever we go to our favorite bagel store in New York for breakfast, we skip right past the array of cream cheeses and order egg salad. Maybe it's a lunchtime food to you, but we think it's perfect pre-10 a.m. Same goes for BLTs... peanut butter and jelly...
This is the same line of thinking that leads us to eat leftover cobbler or birthday cake for breakfast (on occasion). It's flour, sugar, eggs, fruit—same stuff that's in scones, muffins, and pancakes. Why should we discriminate because something is, technically, dessert?
We love any kind of breakfast sandwich with eggs, bacon, or sausage. But sometimes we want something a little cooler and fresher. Egg salad is fantastic in the morning—full of protein, satisfying, and easy to wrap up in a tortilla if you want something portable to take on the go.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are another morning favorite, and grilled cheese is really just cheese toast with an extra slice of bread. Bacon? Bacon is absolutely breakfast territory, so why not a BLT in the morning?

spam and fried egg on whatever bread or cold teriyaki chicken sandwich with mayo - sounds gross but really very good
Yeah I have no problem eating whatever for breakfast. Or eating "breakfast" foods for other meals. It's all just food. Why can't you just eat it whenever?
Cold teriyaki chicken with mayo huh? That sound interesting. I'll try that next time I have leftover teriyaki chicken.
ive eaten egg salad for breakfast since i was kid same with PB&J and grilled ham and cheese....they're great. I also like peanut butter and bananas or strawberries, pork roll sandwiches and scrapple sandwiches
Agreed, why do certain foods have to be eaten at certain times of day?
I like PB sandwiches for breakfast...actually, I usually just eat PB on a slice of bread or toast if I'm home...then I let myself have two!
As far as NY bagel place/street carts though, I like my classic bacon-egg-and-cheese, although I only let myself have it a couple times a year these days.
And I've been known to eat eggs for dinner and cereal at any old time of day...
I'm with you! I actually like tuna salad sandwiches for breakfast, too.
Not a sandwich, but I like leftover rice pudding (the kind baked with an egg custard) for breakfast. I sometimes make a baked pumpkin pudding (basically pumpkin pie without a crust) - and if I don't put too much sugar in, it makes a good breakfast. When I have time, I love Gallo Pinto (rice and beans with peppers, onions, and cilantro etc.) in the morning.
I too don't subscribe to the idea that certain foods are for certain times of the day. Maybe it's an American or Euro-derived thing? East Asians don't seem to categorize food like this. I've eaten kimchi, rice, seaweed soup and fish for breakfast. And I'm also a big fan of eating breakfast foods for dinner and vise versa.
I had egg salad this morning, on buttered toast. I also like lightly toasted, buttered bread with just a slice of cheese in the middle. The cheese softens a little and it's a good commuter breakfast. My stomach can't handle milk for breakfast, so I tend to eat cold cereal for supper.
Oh yes, egg salad and pb&j are great for breakfast. Peanut butter on a mini bagel is a good snack. I also like leftover pizza or lasagna for breakfast, as well as pudding or custards, even leftover fried chicken or ribs (though very rarely). But don't eat breakfast much, because I'd rather be asleep.
I also really like to reverse this idea--for me, pancakes and waffles are dinner food, not breakfast.
When i was growing up, i used to have plain tomato sandwiches. Slightly toasted bread, spread with mayo on both sides, with thin slices of tomatoes.
Believe it or not, it goes well with milk.
