This one does have caramel color in it, which we might be able to forgive since it's the only out of the sort ingredient in the list.
While taking a stroll down the ethnic aisle at our local grocer a new package came to our attention. After further examination, these small white pouches with pretty pictures of fajitas and tacos on them were identified as Frontera products from Rick Bayless. After a quick check over the package we were pleasantly surprised to find not only real ingredients but ones we actually want to eat as well! Now Rick Bayless is usually known for bringing us quality products and this one looks to fall right in line with that philosophy. From the Frontera website the product claims to boast the following things:
• Made from fresh ingredients (not dried spices and powders)
• All natural, no preservatives
• Distinct regional flavors from Mexico
• Convenient, easy to use pouch
It was nice to be able to see the actual product inside through the bottom of the pouch where there were in fact indications of real peppers, things that had been fire roasted and things floating around that I truly wanted to eat — although we're still eating our way through Easter leftovers and testing it will have to wait till next week.
There were 7 different flavors total, you can check out the full product line over at Frontera. Each pouch is added to 1 to 1 1/2 pounds of meat and retailed for just under $2. Although that might seem like more than your average dry seasonings, if you're looking for full flavor on a busy weeknight, it might be a small price to pay, especially when certain ingredients might be out of season.
