We all know those old kitchen colors like harvest gold and olive green from the 60's and the diner-inspired pinks and mint greens of the 1950's. Normally, those colors make one think it's time for an update. But what about when they're used in sleek new kitchens?
These new kitchens use those old colors to beautiful effect. The colors alone still have strong throwback power, but the minimalist designs and shiny lacquered finishes bring them up to date.
What do you think of using a dated old color in new form?

Oooh, the colors are absolutely drool-worthy. I'm so sick of drab rental kitchens, if I had a kitchen like one of these you would never get me out of it. Alas, one day...
The greens and gold I could probably get behind.. but "Velveeta" is not a colour that should be used in decorating.. EVER. Blech.
Dated? I think they're "well aged" :-)
I love Avocado and Harvest. They remind me of my grandmother's appliances. It's really nice to see them in an updated way. (Except that pink kitchen is a bit much for me!
Just bought a "new" Harvest Gold 70's mixer, too! Vintage kitchen stuff (even vintage colors) seem to have a place in my heart

The pink would be better if it was actually the shade used in the 50s instead of Pepto Bismol pink. My grandmother had a pink kitchen and still uses a pink hand mixer. I have her pink kitchen table which I treasure.
I had no idea avocado green could look that attractive. Gives me hope.
Wow that is some bright kitchen, perfect for this season. Some people would say, that different colors have different effects on people. This one make me smile.
kellyc6 is right, but none of the others are "dated old colors" either. True Harvest Gold and Avocado were sort of browned-down and heavy, with nothing sunny or cheery about them, unlike all these most welcoming spaces. That said, that pink is certainly not for everyone...
Wow please just no. I grew up in a harvest gold kitchen down to every appliance. My other grandma had avocado. I love vintage styles, but these colors are flat out ugly. The brighter shades of them, you have orange and limey type greens. Thats not for everyone but not they certainly aren't the mucked up aged looking colors our grandparents had. Even in the most stylish, updated swanky kitchen, if I walk in to harvest gold cabinets I'm going to look at you like "what were you high on when you painted this" It works in Waffle House fine but not my home. The mint green is too reminiscent of grade school cafeterias so its not for me but that's at least palatable for many Id imagine.
These are the colors of vomit, not kitchens.
my kitchen when i moved in was 1973 'vintage' lemony yellow. I'm not sure what the exact name of the color was, but it wasn't harvest gold. countertops, walls, etc. anyone know?
didn't like these colors the first time around
I remember the avocado green and it was dreadful and dreary. I'm guessing it's why I've never really liked green in any room. I don't mind the light green in the last photo. Also, I happen to like the pink. I suppose the colors are not for everyone and I'll always stick to an all-White kitchen, appliances too.
I really like the first kitchen (although I'm not a huge fan of orange) but I feel like it will also look dated, in a few years. There's a bright pink display kitchen in my local ikea that was designed for a contest a couple of years ago that's pretty similar - and it is looking a bit dingy and dated.
I'm not a SUPER fan of the rest of them, although I would be pleased to have all but the avocado one for myself. But even though I normally really dislike pink, I love that kitchen! I think it's fun and funky.
I guess my point is, while all of these will date, if it's YOUR colour and you love it, then even to outside observers it will date less. It will be a lived in, loved place as opposed to a slightly unsuccessful display kitchen that is now off trend.
The avocado kitchen looked unsettlingly familiar. It was just missing a shag carpet. The pink kitchen was very cute, though I would never do it. The yellow 'golden harvest' kitchen was fabulous - that color rocks with eggplant.
No no to harvest gold and avocado even if it is in a sleek updated kitchen. I just can't stomach it. Pink, orange and mint I like.
