Homey comfort food is the order of the day in newspaper food sections this week. Here's a look at what they're cooking up around the country.

There's Slow-Cooked Black Beans and Kielbasa in Miami, Florida, along with good tips for slow cookers. There's also an interesting question about potato candy, and a recipe for Sun-Dried Tomato Bread.

In Kentucky the Lexington Herald-Leader looks at what characterizes Southern cooking, makes do-ahead dinners that freeze and reheat well, and rounds it off with their own list of trends to watch for in 2007.

In Milwaukee, Wisconsin there are recipes to arm against the cold, including Alsatian-Style Split Pea Soup, and an article about different kinds of chocolate. They also have a great story about the city's German heritage, with recipes.

Boston, Massachusetts, gets a feature on Appolonia Poilane, granddaughter of the famous French baker. They also get recipes for spicy winter eating, including lamb gyros and Sichuan shrimp.
