What challenge have you overcome in your kitchen? I just didn't have enough space for all our dishes. So we purchased an inexpensive shelving unit so we could have more storage. I also decided I'd rather use the large food pantry for storing mixers, food processors, etc. and I opted to use a smaller cabinet for food storage instead. It just means I can't stock up on things, but it has also made me a careful, thrifty shopper. We also painted the space which really separates it from the rest of the apartment. Then I hung some art. Who says you can't have art in the kitchen?

What's the story of your kitchen?
We live in a small NYC apartment, but I actually cook for a family of 6 in mine. When we moved here last fall I was concerned to leave my large suburban kitchen behind. I'll admit, it was a challenge at first. But I found out I have to organize and just re-think the way I do my food prep. It can be done!
What is your favorite meal to cook here?
I'm a southern girl and I'm sure my 4 kids' favorite meal is my fried chicken. But we also love to make Chicken Lo Mein and any kind of sweets. Remember, we have kids here, so dessert is a must!

It's lovely but the big bowl, the big lantern, the big 3 canisters are a big oversized for the space.
a bit oversized* sorry
I'm looking for a shelving unit like the wood one in your kitchen. Can you tell me where you purchased it and how much you paid? Thanks! Lovely kitchen!
Oversized is good sometimes in a small space, especially when they are your favorite things. Love the natual light!
Love your kitchen, love your blog too!
Loving that open shelving!
Ok, I am having one of those days so maybe I'm just missing it...but where's the sink?
love the blog!
beautiful kitchen....cozy, light and inviting
I think the "oversized" bowl and canisters are perfect in front of the backdrop of that gorgeous view. Having a large window like that in a kitchen makes it look and feel so much larger.
I also put my dishes out in plain view and hide the appliances and food. It feels cleaner somehow.
I want to come over for some fried chicken!
LOVE LOVE LOVE your kitchen. I think what some are referring to as oversized, I call statement pieces. I live in a cozy 980 sq ft apt and I have a huge sectional and a ginormous leaning mirror in it and would have it no other way! Besides, smaller = easier to clean! Great job!!
What a beautiful job you did with your kitchen. I think all the "large" pieces are just PERFECT. If you had filled your small kitchen with small pieces, it would have looked too cluttered.
Your kitchen looks gorgeous, is organized, and looks like a great place to prepare meals!!
By the way, you should have gotten more votes! I'm sure you know that the ones who get the most votes don't always deserve it. It's a shame, but with the internet and Facebook, etc., there's so many ways to get people voting for you.
Where IS the sink? I don't see it either.
