We are big fans of finding easier ways to do tasks that are usually known for frustration, complication or are just plain old time consuming. Things like making frilly toppings or sauces, or fancy toppings for cupcakes. So when we ran across this super simple tip, it left us thinking — "Why didn't we think of this?!"
Ashley over at Not Without Salt stumbled upon this most creative and super simple way to frost, ice or top a cupcake.
She places one marshmallow on top of each freshly-baked cupcake (storebought is fine, but you know homemade will be 100% better!). Then she pops the whole tray back into the oven until gooey.
After the marshmallows have melted a bit, she presses down the tops, which means each cake marshmallow magically transformed into an ooey, gooey marvelous mouthful of fluff!
Make sure to head over to Not Without Salt to see more on the process and check out Ashley's ever fabulous photography.
Thanks Ashley!

Bacsac Bacsquare 04...

I cannot WAIT until summer is over so I can try this...
Eww. I recently had a store marshmallow for the first time in years and was appalled. Sorry to be such a snob, but all you need is a KitchenAid, sugar, and egg whites:

Shawnamuffin, I don't know anyone who eats storebought marshmallows straight out, they are more of an ingredient like flour, you wouldn't eat a mouthful of flour. I think they have their place in all the Krispy treats, smores and marshmallow fights. Somehow homemade wouldn't be the same.
I did have it in a s'more and couldn't finish it!
The recipe from Not Without Salt uses homemade marshmallows.
I eat marshmallows straight from the bag. Only Jet-Puffed brand, though, others can be gross.
Thanks jmorme, I couldn't remember the brand people preferred.
I have two tiny children and don't have time to make my own marshmallows right now. I think storebought is just fine in a pinch, and that means in regards to everything: pasta sauce, applesauce etc. Things I normally like to make myself but just can't sometimes.
Too tough to be a foodsnob (for me anyway) with crumbsnatchers.
Wow thanks for sharing this blog ! I immediately added it to my RSS feed.
I'm with you Terry_Elisabeth, I hadn't seen Not Without Salt before. Definitely adding it to my feeds.
Also, I hate to admit this, but I have yet to make homemade marshmallows. You guys just talked me in to it...
