Blogger: Megan Gordon
Started at The Kitchn: Fall 2010
Megan is an avid professional baker based in San Rafael, California. She's so avid and professional, in fact, that she just started up her own company: Marge Bakery, bringing classic American sweets (think pop tarts and pies!) to the Bay Area. Read on for a little more about Megan, and to see some of her posts from this past year. A FEW QUESTIONS FOR MEGAN
- What’s your favorite kitchen tool?
Very boring and utilitarian, but I love my immersion blender. That puppy transforms a bunch of ho-hum carrots and some broth into a fragrant soup in no time. And I'm a big soup gal. In the winter: tomato, butternut squash and root vegetables; in the summer: gazpacho and creamy cucumber. The little blender is also a handy way to whip up a quick afternoon milkshake — never a bad thing.
- What’s your secret indulgence in the kitchen?
Ice cream. For those who know me well, I have an absolute and unwavering adoration for ice cream. And I'm ashamed to admit that I'm one of those people who scoops out all the bits of cookie dough, leaving behind boring vanilla for another day. I also love champagne, and no longer force myself to save it for special occasions. It makes me happy.
- What’s your favorite quote on food, cooking, or eating?
"When I walk into my kitchen today, I am not alone. Whether we know it or not, none of us is. We bring fathers and mothers and kitchen tables, and every meal we have ever eaten. Food is never just food. It's also a way of getting at something else: who we are, who we have been, and who we want to be." - Molly Wizenberg
