You know how when you're traveling abroad and eating out a lot, you sometimes crave a homemade meal? Meal Sharing is a new social-networking site that connects you with a home-cooked meal wherever you are. Watch a video of how it works below:
We love the idea and spirit of this venture. The minds behind Meal Sharing ("a community of people who get together, learn from each other, and enjoy home cooked meals") believe in three things: the importance of home-cooked food (that which is "soaked in the traditions, personality, and care of the people who made them"), traveling, and learning. And while restaurants give you a sense of the local cuisine, "meal sharing turns a place into people." We couldn't agree more!

I like this idea quite a lot. Do people feel comfortable going to strangers homes?
This is amazeballs. I've done homestays before while traveling and it really enriched the experience for me. This would be another great way to meet local folks and immerse in the culture. So. Cool.
Ha. For some reason the headline made me think that this was a video conferencing service like that one that connects you to random strangers, the name of which is escaping me right now... Anyway, it wouldn't be very much fun to watch people eat over a webcam so this makes a lot more sense. Cool idea!
I recently traveled to Montreal, where we stayed with a couple from Mauritius using AirBnb. They invited some other Mauritian friends over and made us a traditional Mauritian meal. We enjoyed lovely food and company, learned about Mauritius, and spent the evening singing and playing music together. It had nothing to do with Montreal, but it was the best night we had there. I will definitely look into this next time I travel.
