Mark's Spanish-style bungalow in northeast Los Angeles dates from the 1930s, and the style is cool and relaxed—"cabin mod," as he calls it. The kitchen is very simple and straightforward, but there are a few interesting details to note:

Mark keeps all his spices and cooking utensils at the ready right above the stove! I like the look, and it must certainly be convenient, although I wonder about keeping it clean. The other notable detail is the taut wire on the ceiling, which serves as a hanger for both pots and extra lighting. (Do you see the small LED spot light hanging down?)

All in all, it looks like a charming kitchen to cook in!

Cambria,
Actually, the pots are hanging on a rod, just next to the lighting fixture so I can see why it looks like the pots and the small light share the same taut wiring.
I used to keep my spices and such on a shelf above my stove, in a kitchen that didn't have any sort of an exhaust hood and as long as you wipe them down occasionally, they never get all that bad, and just use the utensils, and, again, periodically, give them all a good wash, and it worked great for my needs at the time.
Oh! You're right. Thanks for pointing that out!
I love that old fashioned stove and the marble topped island.
This is, by the way one of my all time favorite house tours on apartment therapy. Everyone should check out the rest of it.
