When Marjorie's Hollywood kitchen appeared on my computer screen, I didn't know where my eye should move first. The copper pans? The ornate chandelier? The jaw-dropping 1945 O'Keefe and Merritt six burner, double oven, double broiler beauty? (Whew! That's a mouthful!) It's a visual feast, clearly inspired by Marjorie's extensive travels to France, England, Italy, and Greece.
She says her style is "completely uninhibited" and her inspiration "classical in nature, but brought into our times through the use of colors and unexpected materials." It may not be your style (ultimately, it's not mine), but it's still a joy to view. Did you catch the bug lampshade?

Bacsac Bacsquare 04...

I'm going to be honest here, feelings be damned. This is tacky as all hell. Exceptionally overdecorated, cluttered and cruddy. Then again, I prefer a very clean, modern home. This is just an eyesore, for me.
I agree--there are many elements that I like (Wedgwood stove, copper pots, built-in shelves with chicken wire doors), but all of it together is way over-the-top for my taste.
I often wonder whether people add a bunch of extra "design elements" just for these photo shoot. It seems like it would be nearly impossible to cook with a taxidermy goose in the way (I'd either accidentally add it to the stock pot, or guiltily succumb to its glassy-eyed stare and become a vegan).
Oops--I meant O'Keefe and Merritt stove, not Wedgewood! Either way, it's gorgeous!
I love the thin cabinet holding spices and the stove is fabulous. Other than that the clutter is giving me a serious twitch. Glad it works for her and she is happy.
I agree with the other comments. There are some really great elements and some quirky items here and there that make it an interesting and fun kitchen (Marble! Copper pots! That stove and the mermaid above the sink), but then there is also a lot to take in visually. Keep it quirky, but cut back on some of the *stuff*.
Hey, snarky commenters: this is not your kitchen. It doesn't have to be your taste. Have none of you seen Bambi? If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Now, that's character! I love it and I admire her daring to have a real, functioning kitchen rather than the faceless bare counter tops everyone else seems to be doing. There's life going on in this kitchen. Bravo and bon appetite!!
Definitely not my taste--the visual clutter would overwhelm me immediately and I could never withstand cooking with so much decor on the countertops, but I do admire the charming eccentricity of this space. This kitchen does not belong to a woman paralyzed by design decisions or who spends hours pouring over shelter magazines to find an "inspiration look"--this kitchen belongs to someone who knows what she loves.
Okay, it's a little too cluttered for me but every photo I see I say to myself - wow I could do that or that or that! It's like a fashion show where the dress is gorgeous but you don't get the headpiece. And that's okay because she loves everything she put there. Oh and the sink is to die for!
I have always been drawn to copper pots and pans, but I do not have them in my kitchen, simply because we travel a lot, and it is not worth investing into something expensive, which might be lost or damaged during the next move... But when I get my own house I will definitely go for copper ones, they bring a touch of warmth into any kitchen...
Pretty!
I agree that it's a bit OTT for me, but I like a lot of the individual pieces. I'd probably spread them over the whole house though, instead of putting them in one room. But I like the pictures, since it looks like she's actually using the kitchen while someone takes pictures.
It's original and fun.
I hate it when AT/Kitchn get too samey.
