On her blog, Hounds in the Kitchen, Rachel explains how having a young daughter increased drinking straw use in their house. But she wanted to avoid plastic and BPA so she looked into glass straws. They were quite expensive — more than she wanted to pay. And this was a couple years ago, before stainless steel straws became easy to find.
So Rachel and her husband Alex whipped up a few homemade stainless steel straws and they're still going strong, two years later. Here's how they did it:

Rachel does point out that stainless steel straws have become more popular and you can find other options now on Etsy. Some of these may be less expensive than making straws yourself.
