If an anti-fatigue mat or carpet tile squares are out of reach budget wise (don't worry they are for us too), try this inexpensive and extra-tough solution. Your kitchen sees its share of messes and foot traffic, so finding something that can take a beating while your pocketbook doesn't is a win-win situation!
Jari B shared his fabulous IKEA based kitchen mat solution with the foks over at IKEA Hacker and we thought it was a job well done. His kitchen is well used to cook up the catch of the day and sees a great deal of action.
Instead of opting for more expensive purchases, he turned to the $1.99 Borris Door Mats. Although they had to be altered slightly, it wasn't anything major and the results are fabulous. The Borris mats have a latex back which will keep things in place and even if you drop an entire pan of goulash on them, they're easily replaced without shedding a tear.
Thanks Jari B!

Martha Concrete Lam...

These look cool, but they're not going to replace the gel mats which make standing for long periods of time bearable.
I don't know about anyone else, but I've used those mats before and there's a reason they're only $1.99. Hate them.
these are cool and of course they don't replace the gel mats. nuf said, hate is a strong word... but i really appreciate the thought behind them... i read the article in ikea hacker and this guy is so cute and resourceful with his space... YAY to boys who give a ----... love them!!!
