We're getting a little bored with the traditional knife block that we find in every store we walk into. There's nothing wrong with them — they are a staple for a reason — but sometimes we find ourselves wanting something a little more unique. We knew we didn't want something run of the mill, so we turned to the trusty internet.

We landed at the Feel Felt Found Etsy page and we were immediately impressed. We've certainly seen similar knife blocks, but nothing quite like this. We know that magnets have been used in knife wrangling &mdash but typically they're used in strips on the wall and knives are then seen clinging to them. We could definitely see this sitting on our counter and looking right at home.
The Magnetic Knife Block is made from eco-friendly MDF, painted with low VOC paint and uses rare earth magnets to keep the knives in place. Each block is hand made and shipped flat &mdash small assembly is required in attempts to keep shipping costs minimal.
The knives are held into place by the magnets and sit flush against the knife block. The block is designed to hold six knives, three on each side. The fact that the knives aren't sliding into anything is what we like about this block. No need to worry about wood warping or any potential unsightly problems over time.
What do you think of the Magnetic Knife Block?
&bull Find it at Feel Felt Found for $110.

Very cool block.
FYI: It ships from Australia. Shipping to the US will run you another $35.
In contrast to typical wall-mounted magnetic knife strips, here the blades have a large area in contact with the block. I would want to know exactly where the magnets are and what kind of force is required to remove the knives. Would not be thrilled about needing to hold the block with one hand while yanking the knife away with the other.
Also, in contrast to normal slotted knife blocks, that thing looks very tall with the knives installed, and would not work underneath typical cabinets.
I really like the idea, but I do not like the price.
This would be great for us renters looking for a magnetic strip, but also looking to avoid putting two more holes in the wall. Too bad it's so much $.
Agreed with neilw's second point. Standard blocks are boring, but they hold the handles at a convenient angle for those of us working in tiny NYC apartment kitchens with low overhanging cabinets. I don't see how this would be at all practical unless you had a lot of clearance to work with.
It looks nice, but I am currently saving money for one of these beautifull things: "KAI stonhenge"

Screw the knife block, where can I find those knives?!
Oh, finally a knife block that looks reasonable to clean. I always shudder at knife blocks that you stick the knife into...what sort of gruesome horrors live in there? Sure, you wash your knives, but perfectly clean and dry every time?
Another good option if you don't have much counterspace is the wooden wall-mounted holder from BenchCrafted (.com). The magnets are concealed and they don't have the metal strips that most wall-mounted wood knife strips have, meaning your knives don't come into contact with metal.
