Loving: Green Picnic and Market Basket

We are totally crushing on this green basket from Crate & Barrel. They tout it as a picnic basket, a fresh and cute way to carry your lunch out to the park. But it could be good for so many other things too.

We would really like a basket like this for the market; we were struggling last week to carry around a couple pints of fresh strawberries without crushing them in our market bag. A basket is just better for some market goods.

This could look great in the kitchen, too, storing jars of jam or kitchen towels. And all this at a great price! Just $15 each.

Cute, but I'd worry that the thin handles would gouge into my hands/arms once the basket was laden with food.

I bike to the coop and then use my bike basket as my shopping basket (it detaches easily from the bike). That keeps me from overloading myself, too! If i can't fit it in the basket while shopping, I won't be able to carry it home, either.
Of course, I've been known to use the basket plus a backpack or a carboard box bungeed to my rear bike rack, but it's still good for quicker shops.

@nomnom I had a basket like this that I used for grocery shopping and it does kinda cut into your hand, but no more than a plastic bag does.

I love the idea of putting this near my front door full of rolled up handtowels for me to grab on my way to the gym. It would even keep the cats from sleeping on them!

I'm thinking it would get uncomfortable to carry once it had stuff in it, too. In my house, it would quickly become just another container. Maybe we'd end up throwing our partnerless socks in it, to be sorted through for pairs every great once in a while.

This would be great for storing onions or potatoes.

Love it. Great for storage in the kitchen - onions, potatoes, garlic, etc.

I really like this basket for kitchen storage but I agree that the small handles wouldn't be a great idea for normal use...

it folds flat when I'm not using it at the market, is cute, and is fairly lightweight with supportive handles.

There are many many different colours and designs though so check out the actual company's website.

Wow... didn't even see this post until now - I just picked it up this weekend at C&B! I bought it for countertop veggie storage (I'm currently using a footed basket that I'd prefer to use as a serving piece on the table)... I liked it because it was a bit modern but still had that french wire sensibility. And, you know, it was a cool shade of green.

It would be horrible to carry once it got heavy
