If you're looking for one more subscription to round out your food magazines this year, we definitely recommend this one.The magazine is headed by Jason and Todd Alstöm and serves as an extension of their Beer Advocate community network, an online community rating and discussing beers. A recent issue took a look a Japanese beers, included a description and recipe for Belgian-style homebrew, and profiled the best beer spots in Spokane, Washington. That's in addition to the dozen or so beer reviews from the Alstöm brothers themselves.
One of the things we really love about this magazine is that it's not a glossy, super-polished publication. It's a little bit geeky, a little bit cheeky, and a little bit rugged around the edges. Which is pretty much how we see the world of craft brewing! The writing might not bowl you over, but it's solid stuff. We like the friendly yet knowledgeable tone and the feeling that we're part of a community of beer lovers.
When it came time to chose which magazines to renew this past month, Beer Advocate was a shoo-in.
