We are on a hunt. For the second year in a row, Maxwell is looking for the very, very best toffee in the country. Last year's winner was Littlejohn’s Candies in Los Angeles
Now we're looking for this year's winner — a shop that makes artisan-quality, incredibly yummy holiday toffee. Or, if you have a perfect recipe for toffee, we'd love that too! Do you have a tip for us?
We love toffee, and for a few different reasons we'd like to find the very best sort in the country. Do you have a certain brand you swear by or that you order every year? Do you have any recommendations for small, artisan-quality companies that make a batch we could order? Pictured above, from left to right:
• English Toffee, from Carousel Candies
• Vosges Toffee, from Neiman Marcus
Here's last year's discussion of the best toffee in the land, too:

Do you have any toffee recommendations or recipes for us?

Gotta represent for Philly: John and Kira's Chocolates are soooo good. http://www.johnandkiras.com/product/hazelnut-toffee/New-for-Fall
Li-Lac's bite sized pieces of Butter Crunch in NYC are lovely. While it isn't as exciting as large, beautiful shards of toffee, I worked near their shop years ago, and it was the perfect treat after a difficult day.

Terry's Toffee in Chicag is really good! http://www.terrystoffee.com/index.php
Enstrom's toffee is delicious. www.enstrom.com
A Toffee Tale makes fantastic toffee. The owner has sold at the town farmers' market for a number of years now, and just last year she opened a small local factory. Her toffee is hand made and really incredible, and her company is environmentally careful and gives back to the community. Good stuff all around.
You must try BRANDINI Toffee. It is wondeful. A local company started in La Quinta, CA, by a couple of high school students. I think even Martha Stewart had them on her show. Quite the entrepreneurs. A great local product and available on line, too.
Go try Mendocino Chocolate Company -http://www.mendocino-chocolate.com/
Allison's Gourmet makes the best toffee outside of England. It is incredible. www.allisonsgourmet.com

Bell Stone Toffee (bellstonetoffee.com) out of Michigan is at the very top of my list - simple ingredients, excellent balance of flavors, and available via mail order!
Second for Goody Two's in Phoenix (Scottsdale, actually).
Just as last year, I'm going to have to go with Toffee by Audra, now expanded to A Toffee Tale. The recommendation was seconded last year, which is no small feat considering the small size of the town.
How funny! Last year was the first in ages that I'd made toffee for the holidays, and it went like hotcakes. I was just working out who would be the lucky recipients this year. Check out my recipe:

They are one of the prairie state's best small businesses!
Without a doubt the best toffee is The Toffee Box. I don't know anyone who doesn't love it when they try it. It's handcrafted and the company is family owned. Try it! www.thetoffeebox.com
