We love this apron idea from the US-based company Just Perfect, which adds a zip-off towel along the bottom of a regular apron bib. What do you think?
The bottom of our apron tends to get a lot dirtier than the top. We're always using it to wipe off our hands, quickly dry a knife blade, or pick up hot dishes when the oven mitts can't be found.
We like that we could just zip off the bottom towel portion of this apron and throw it in the wash along with our regular kitchen towels. The towel portion would also be more absorbent than a regular apron, which makes it a better tool for all those extra tasks we use it for!
If you have access to a sewing machine, this would also make a fairly easy DIY project. It would be a simple matter of buying a zipper and cutting up a few towels to fit an old apron.

Do you think you could get multiple zippers to match up so you can have a bunch of towel bottoms to put on?

This is pretty cool, but really easy to do to any apron. Just get a zipper and sew one half to an existing apron and the other half to a towel and zip!
Could I Velcro my towels to my apron? Putting Velcro tabs on the apron, and matching tabs on a WHOLE LOT of towels would make this even more convenient for me, and I could swap out the towels with more frequency.
Cute. My apron has a big pocket on the front, so I sometimes keep a dish towel tucked in there for this very reason.
Oh, Velcro is a dandy idea.
Or just a tab on your apron, to tie through a loop or a tag on the towel. That way you wouldn't have Velcro on the apron or towel when you didn't want it (the little hooks would catch crap).
Zipper? You've got to be kidding me.
Just make sure your apron has ties long enough to wrap around the front, and tie in the front. That way you've got a cord running all the way around your waist.
Now just hang one or two kitchen towels off the cord and you're good to go.
Works with any towel. No need for velcro or zippers or whatever.
My first thought was also, "Can I just buy the towel by itself so I have more than one?"
Definitely a great DIY. What about metal snaps instead of velcro? That way, no sticky velcro to catch stuff, and no zippers to match up if you want multiple towels!
Yes, snaps. And no sewing that way--just a hammer and that little snap kit.
Although now that I see Trey Jackson's idea, that might really be the way to go.
Not a fan! Just take a hand/dish towel and stick it in your pocket so it hangs out. Wipe everything on it, and then you can throw it in the wash afterward. You generally have lots of towels, and I wouldn't want to have to wash my apron every time I cook! (Or have multiple aprons.) And I'd want to wash my wipe rag after each meal/use. But, maybe that's just me. :)
Ooh, now I'm seeing that there *is* velcro involved? From the comments it sounded like there should be velcro, but there was not.
Anyway, still, just use your cheapo dish towels and put them in your pocket, which would definitely be less money/work than buying or making velcro-lined ones.
