How pretty are these hammered silver cabinets? Although it's a small kitchen, the shimmery panels make the room feel very luxe. Would you ever go for this look?
The hammered silver cabinets are paired with marble countertops and a marble backsplash, which together make the kitchen feel particularly opulent. (Perhaps it's a bit much?)
Anyway, price tag notwithstanding (and I imagine this look comes with a pretty hefty one), the hammered cabinets are a really stunning detail, in my opinion. I'd be curious to see how they'd look paired with something other than marble.
Hammered silver and marble: is this a dream material duo for you?

I bet some industrious person amongst us can make this happen.
Rad.
Oh the water spots and fingerprints!! Looks like a butlers pantry or a kitchen with a maid/housekeeper in residence.
this looks like the one side of insulation that is covered with aluminum-foily stuff. Not a fan.
Yeah, somehow I just don't like it. Also it seems like keeping it clean would be a nightmare.
I think it would be beautiful for a small area like a butler's pantry. And the butler can clean it, because there's no way I would be able to keep up with it.
The butler can also deal with that overly precious 2-valve sink!
Normally I like sparkle....but this seems a bit much. Or maybe not enough. Nondescript. My reaction seems due to my feeling that the cabinets were not done justice by the colorless background. Little to no contrast. Could be this kitchen did not photograph well, or maybe did not translate well to my iPad screen, but the sparkling cabinets seem to have more depth and read warm to me, almost a greyed beige, working better with the gold accents (although I was not a fan of those) while the Carrera (Carrara) Marble background seems far too cold (shiver) grey, and far too blue-white. To my eyes almost clashing with the warmer tones. For me those gold accents were far too warm to provide either balance or a suitable contrast. Considering the possible cost and amount of effort involved, this ktchen looks uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Is it just for looks? For me It fails on that count too.
I actually think the hammered finish would camouflage fingerprints and water spots - I am a fan of this look!
God, that's so gaudy, a kitchen for people who just want to show off their money. And I gather it's not lacquered or anything, so it's going to tarnish basically immediately. Ridiculous.
Ooo shiny.
I think the cabinets are wonderful, but I don't like the marble with it - it's cold where the cabinets are warm, but not far enough removed to act as contrast. Maybe with browns?
First I have to ask where the marble and silver are sourced from. But otherwise - holy cow. It's gorgeous! I'd take that in a heartbeat.
oooo pretttty. i don't think i would choose it for my personal everyday cooking needs, but i kind of LOVE it. the ceiling fixture is lovely. does it come with a circa 1976 cocktail dress? are the only things in the cabinets vodka, vermouth, and a jar of olives? it makes me want to slip on my shiny gold heels, pile on the mascara and start making martinis. its only 11am. i want to call everyone 'daaaahling.'
The cabinets are beautiful, but that marble and those candlesticks have got to go.
I really don't like this. They've somehow managed to make this small kitchen look gaudy and sterile at the same time. I think it's one of the least welcoming kitchens I've seen.
oh wow. i just think the cabinets are so pretty, though i wouldn't want them in a kitchen which is what i think this is since there's a cooktop too.
but that marble is hilarious: the floor and toekick are also marble! do these folks own a quarry so it's just stuff they have lying around?
Hmm, not sure about the cabinets, but I will take that beautiful chandelier. Any idea on a source (I'm guessing vintage)?
Trying too hard.
A lot of people have mentioned that the cabinets have a warm look to them...could this be from reflecting sunlight from the window? And from that, I would guess that they could take on a wide range of "feelings" from however the rest of the kitchen was decorated around them. Someone above mentioned brown...that might keep with the warm feeling and at the same time tone things down a bit. Personally, I'd like to see them with a bright backsplash (red?) and the rest of the room muted.
Does anyone know what these are actually made of? Surely they're not silver, that WOULD tarnish...and the price would be beyond comprehension. ;)
too cold for a kitchen..
It looks like someone covered it with foil. It's not too cold for a kitchen (I love a cold, sterile kitchen) but it's just not as elegant as I think it could be.
GLORIOUS! but I would not do all the cabinets in silver. I'd love this look in my new bathroom. :)
I think it would have been better if only the uppers were done with the metal. Not a fan of all the marble. It again would have been better if just the countertop was marble and they did something else for the backsplash. Just because you can afford to do something doesn't mean you should
Not for me, though I can see where some people might like it. I'd be more into copper, paired with natural wood. Kind of 70's of me, but to each their own.
I love this!! It'd be perfect in my miniscule kitchen and oh sometimes beauty triumphs practicality and I'd say that this is one of those times. BIG LOVE!! Where can I get it and how much does it cost to cover the cabinets?
I love it. Silver/silver tone has always been a favorite metal for me - even in my jewlery.
I agree with those who have posted that a different backsplash and counter would make this look a bit 'warmer'. I'd opt for either green or blue.
I on the other hand do not care for the ceiling fixture/chandelier. I'd opt for something other than metal..maybe something in color.
That's more likely nickel silver than actual silver, especially given the warm yellowish cast and the pairing with a brass pendant light. I like the look in that tiny kitchen, but the marble color is far too cold and bluish for the cabinets. They should have gone with a soft-white marble with a gold veining.
I think it's gorgeous, like a piece of art. Yet I understand the comments from those who find it not to their taste, impractical, cold. According to the accompanying Elle Decor article:
"The cabinetry in the kitchen is clad in hammered silver [made in Morocco], and the countertops and floor are marble; the brass-and- opaline light fixture is by Stilnovo, and the sink is by Franke."
And the owner is a Parisian interior designer - the piece doesn't say whether he actually uses his kitchen or not though - maybe he dines out all the dine time & this room is used to prepare & serve pre-dinner cocktails before a night out! :) Click on the link "elle decor" under the photo & you'll see more images from this unusual home.
@RF82, the "silver" sheeting that is crafted in Morocco -- whether hammered or pierced -- is invariably nickel silver...not actually silver at all but sometimes plated with the stuff. That cabinet sheathing could be plated.
I'm actually digging this style, but maybe a bit too much? I would do something like this but maybe just upper cabinets as a statement piece and keep the rest subdued.
I don't know. I'm a magpie, attracted to glitz and glitter, but this doesn't resonate for me. It's like it can't decide if it's luxe or industrial. It might have worked better for me if I saw crystals in the light fixture or some other details that also seemed a bit over-the-top glamorous. I also agree with others that the marble is too white to go well with the slightly bronzed metal.
Interesting--I like the cabinets. I think it would go well with wooden countertops.
I originally saw this image in Elle decor and his apartment is stunning. When you see everything as a whole it makes a lot of sense because the color palette is very soothing and there is fluidity between each of his rooms.
I just figured out what this reminds me of: a grow-op!
Maybe it would work better if the shiny cabinets were paired with warm neutrals, instead of that white marble.
In a heartbeat!
The metal itself is stunning and I think it would hide grime and fingerprints well.
The marble is actually the impractical part for me, it's beautiful but not realistic (or necessarily the best complement to the metal).
Another type of stone counter and/or floor with these cabinets and I'd love it.
I agree with ANNA EUROPE.
I love these.
Don't like the cabinets, but I really really like the marble...
Tarnish?!
I think they would have been better with a luxurious wood on the bottom cabinets -- mahogany maybe -- with the silver limited to the top cabinets.
And yes, a slightly different marble, with less blueish veining.
The top half of the room looks pretty. The bottom half looks like a bathroom. I'd keep the one but not the other.
I love this so much (minus the frame and candlesticks) I'm having a hard time not swearing. Like, my heart actually aches because I can't have those cabinets...
I don't normally like sparkly things but I love this. It wouldn't work in my life, but I love it all, even the marble. Though I think wood could be really great, too.
Studio 54.
What I don't love is the gold-ish tint to the metal with the grey-silver marble and other grey-based metals in the kitchen. But, overall, I do enjoy this quite a bit.
