We just saw these lids and spouts by designer Jorre van Ast over at one of our sister home sites, and we had to show you!
These plastic lids and spouts screw onto standard-sized jars, which means that you can reuse those canning jars and old jam jars as leftover containers, milk jugs, and more. The rings and caps that come with most jars get rusted, and it's not recommended to reuse them anyway.
We are avoiding plastic as much as we can, and even though these are plastic they do make it easier to store food in glass containers. We'd like to see what kind of plastic these are made out of.
Reusing glass containers is something we're very much in favor of. We told you how to make a spice grinder with an old jar and your blender and we also showed you how we store our tea.
We're also waiting for these to be more widely available; we're not sure where to buy these yet. Find more info at the main post.

Where can I buy these?
They are designed for RoyalVKB and it looks like they are just prototypes: http://www.designws.com/pagina/1jorre08.htm
But RoyalVKB is a good company and we'll keep an eye out for their release. We blogged their garlic crusher:

these look great, my girlfriends biggest complaint about my reusing random bottles is the fact that they don't have any consistency...these should seal the deal
I want these NOW! please do keep us posted on when they are available. genius.
Why is it not recommended to reuse the tops that come with jars? I do this all the time! Am I in trouble?
