Look at this cute spring treat! Hardboiled eggs, carved with a few simple tools into a family of cheeping chicks and their proud mama.
We love this cute presentation of hardboiled eggs. It's a lot better for you than most of the sweets that fill Easter baskets, too.
The chicks were created with a sharp knife, some little circles of nori, and carrot beaks. (One commenter suggested using peppercorns for eyes.) They are pretty straightforward to assemble; we think that just about anyone could do this — no special tools required.

WOW. That's cute.
Aw it's adorable. I would never want to eat it...
...ok, that's a lie, anytime there's deviled eggs around it doesn't last long.
Actually that's vaguely disturbing...but then again, I am reading Safran Foer's "Eating Animals" right now. Could have something to do with it. ;)
what's the momma chicken's comb made of? a pepperoni?
They're kinda cute, but I have to agree with wabisabichan.. they're a little morbid if you think about it. (I know, I know, unfertilized are not, and never would have been, chicks. But still.. you know?)
Are chick-shaped peeps morbid?
Aww...the little chickens that never were.
Omg!!! SO CUTE! I totally want to make them.
These are a bento staple. They're even more cute if you make them out of tiny quail eggs.
So cute!
