I was so excited to receive this wonderful surprise from my aunt. I'd been shopping around for kitchen canisters for some time when she offered to give me an old set of hers. But I had no idea they would be so charming!
She thrifted them herself something like thirty years ago, so they're old and unlike anything I could purchase new today. I love the cheery hand-drawn flowers that decorate the glass, which is stamped as made in France. The set of eight jars is labeled in liters, holding anywhere from .5 to 2 (which is really quite large!).
The jars are much more flowery and decorative than anything else in my kitchen (or house, for that matter!) but I Iove that they were used by my aunt and possibly someone else before her. A hot bath and new rubber seals made them as good as new. Today, they introduce a little soft vintage vibe into my own home decades later, and I fondly remember where they came from every time I go for a scoop of oats, sugar, or flour. (Thanks, Aunt J.!)
Have you received the gift of a lovely kitchen hand-me-down before? Let's hear about it in the comments below.

My mom has that exact set! I think she received them as a wedding gift 34 years ago!
I love that set of canisters so much that I got that flower pattern tattooed on my arm. I know that is extreme, but I love the simplicity of it. Also, I only have 2 out the set, when I was buying them I dropped one immediately. I will forever be on a hunt for others to match!
I have a set of plain ARC jars from the latter years that they were still available. I recently cleaned them up and rolled them out again too.
I have some glass canisters with pink strawberries from my grandma. They're pretty useless-guess grandma must have thought so too because I only remember seeing them on top of the fridge, never in use.
My mom and I have recently split our 5 piece set of the same jars... they are better than anything I've seen the in the stores!
So funny... I just posted this week about my set of vintage mustard yellow Tupperware canisters. Three of them were passed onto me from my Mom and I just scored four more from Etsy! Hand-me-downs are the best :) http://unspeakablevisions.blogspot.com/2010/11/birthday-tupperware.html
My mother had that set of jars....I had completely forgotten about them.
Love your jars! My set (Arc - made in France) looks similar to yours only mine has a white & blue decorative strip. Would have loved to inherit it; but, I was overjoyed to find them at Goodwill! There are four that range from .5 to 2 L. This manufacturer has several different design collections of this jar set ... the designs I've seen during my search for them are beautiful, simple & retro so that they fit any decor in any era ... like your beautiful flowers!
Where did you get your new rubber seals? Are the rubber seals for your set a standard size that can be ordered easily ... or did you have to buy them from the original manufacturer?
I cannot get the coffee scent out of the jar - hope replacing the seal will solve the problem. Hot bath, soaking over night in diluted vinegar/baking soda mix, newspaper ... didn't work ... still coffee.
The rubber seals are gaskets for canning jars. I couldn't find any locally so I ordered from Amazon. They aren't quite as thick as the originals but they've worked fine.

Also, I thought to mention that if the metal clamp pieces need spiffing up, sandpaper works great.
I have these jars! For my bridal shower, I got this set of canisters. That was 1982 and I still have the jars but not the husband. I just can't keep everything forever.
@Merry123, thank you for answering my question with that link ... I love amazon. If the local mom-&-pop hardware store in a nearby antique district doesn't carry them, amazon is it. Your sandpaper tip will be put to good use since ... yes, the metal clamps/levers are a bit rough.
