Look! Fried avocado slices! Have you ever seen such?
Well, actually we have seen something like this before, but this is a little different. These fries are slices or wedges of fries dipped in beaten egg and rolled in panko crumbs.
This recipe originally came from Sunset Magazine, but we found it at the Circle B Kitchen blog, where Patrice says, "Crunchy on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside… I dusted them with a little parmesan cheese, which was so unnecessary. But wow."
We say wow too! These look amazing.

We had avocado fries at a bar here in Brooklyn last summer - they were possibly the most indulgent thing to ever cross my lips.
I am so intrigued by these fries. The idea of the crisp outside and the creamy inside is rather distracting.
I had these at the California State Fair a few years ago-yummy.

I had a tempura battered fried avocado half in Mexico years ago, topped with a chipotle mousse. It was possibly the best thing my mouth has ever experienced.
I'm with cookingcanuck on that one: I'm mesmorized by these. They look so good. And I can almost feel the panko on my lips...
There is a restaurant in Austin (name?) that serves fried avocado. It's to die for. It's half an avocado stuffed w/ chicken and cheese and deep fried in batter w/ a cream sauce for dipping. Very yum.

Mighty Cone in Austin also does a variation on these, wrapped in a tortilla with ancho sauce. Fabulous.

I had torchy's too @peaceofwestphila! AH-mazing. It's pretty big all over Austin, I had it at another taco truck too.
IT IS SO GOOD. Great for veggies too because avocado has such a nice meaty fatness to it, fried avocado could replace veggie burgers as my favorite no-meat meal!

I can't believe I've never heard of this! I just figured an avocado would fall apart in hot oil, not sure why. I'm an avocado freak - my boyfriend comes home to see me eating them straight out of the skin with just salt - so this will be a must-try technique.

back to add that it bugs me that the recipe doesn't specify what variety of avocado. Because it's from Sunset, I'll assume they mean Haas which is the one and only for me anyway.
Seems like the non-California varieties would come out much differently because of the higher water content.

If you're in Orange County, they have something like this at Habana at The Lab in Costa Mesa. It's delicious but you really can't eat it more than once in a great while without feeling guilty :)

Big Truck Tacos here in Oklahoma City makes a taco called the Crispy'cado with fried avocado, romaine, tomatillo salsa, pico de gallo & queso fresco - it is amazing!
these sound delicious. i'm totally making them tonight. probably with some sort of mayo-based sauce to dip them in. chipotle aioli? perhaps.

I actually did just try avocado tempura at Soba Totto in NYC. They were great with a sprinkle of good sea salt!
the now-closed restaurant barfry in new york city used to have an avocado tempura. it was probably the best thing i ate there.
These are so amazing on a salad. Forget the parma though, it's not necessary.

Oh my goodness, those look divine! I still pine for the avocado eggrolls at Cheesecake Factory. Yes, there, I said it. :)
I feel like I should LOVE these, but I am just not a fan of hot avocados. Too bad though.
