Want to do something truly eye-catching in your kitchen? How about a giant Union Jack painted on the wall? In a more subtle color palette, of course.
This modern butler's pantry, designed by Tinsley Hutson-Wiley and Alison Bloom for the San Francisco Decorator Showcase, gives "a nod to the British tea-time tradition," as the pair told Remodelista back in August. How did they get the look? The designers covered the wall in plywood sheeting, nailed strips of oak on top, and then painted the Union Jack mural using Benjamin Moore Navajo White paint and a khaki- and kohl-colored stain, finished with a high gloss lacquer.

Straw Mat from The ...

I'm quite in raptures about this! Now if only I had a statement wall where this could be done. Alas, all have cabinets or windows.
The open shelving, for me, wouldn't do because I'm a little messy, but I opened this page and said out loud, "now THAT'S cool!". Love the color palette, it still looks clean and functional!
Love the colors, would tire quickly of the graphic.
Nice. I like flag motifs but usually not the attention-grabbing colors so this works.
Union Flag. It is only an Union Jack when its facing the sea.
Bonus points: (Mom dated a sailor...)
Nice! Although my partner is a New Zealander, so I doubt this would fly in our home. (you may groan at will...)
Proud sister moment! Yay Tinsley!
