We're used to buying our cranberries by the bag, but while we were visiting family in Indiana over the weekend, we spotted this mini cranberry bog in the produce section of the local food co-op. Fun!
We found this cranberry bog at Bloomingfoods Market and Deli, a member-owned co-op in Bloomington, Ind., with a great selection of fresh and organic products.
Instead of grabbing a bag of cranberries, you can scoop your own out of the little bog and buy them by the pound. It's a nice touch for holiday shopping, plus it keeps the berries nice and fresh.
Have you seen a similar setup in your local store?

What a fun idea!
That's where I shop, so yep, I've seen that exact same set-up.
Wow, great idea! Now you know that the ones on top are good. Wish more places did this.
Cute! Sell them just like they're harvested.
The problem is I need the bag, cause the recipe is on the back! :\
I don't usually even think about stuff like this (because I'm no germophobe), and I guess it doesn't matter because you wash your fruit before you eat/prepare it, but this seems a little germy.
How is it any germier than any other fruit? I'd guess it's less so, because no one is touching it with their bare hands. When you buy an apple or a pear or a bunch of green onions, you have *no* idea who has touched it before you.
Unless you bob for them with your mouth (very time-consuming), I don't imagine they're all that germy.
Oh my gosh, food poisoning at it's best. The water is not sanitary and the bacterial level will quickly multiply to dangerous levels. Water also hastens rot in the berries and poor shelf life. I'm staying with dry berries.
our coop sells them loose, but not in water. how cool! (though I also worry about the spread of germs in there. ew)
if you wash then COOK the berries which i'm sure most of you will, you wont get sick. that's why we cook chicken.
Excellent for the store as you are paying for the weight of the water left on the berries that you scoop up!!!
I LOVE bloomingfoods. and Bloomington. It's where we shop too!
I saw the picture and thought, oh, Bloomingfoods! I live across the street. I just wish they would either sell or let me pick all the gorgeous crabapples on their trees out front.
thats really wet
