What a splendid idea: Turn a watermelon into a cake! This lovely idea came originally from Martha Stewart, but it was executed brilliantly by Sala of Veggie Belly. She has great photos of the process: You slice a watermelon into slices, arrange them like a round cake, then top with watermelon balls. Very pretty and a great presentation for simple watermelon.
You can serve it simply — just the fruit alone — or sprinkle it lightly with mint and sugar, as we did here.
