For open kitchen layouts that blend into the entertaining and living areas (say, in a loft, for example) this idea seamlessly integrates the two: a kitchen island that's kitchen-ey on one side, and home design-focused on the other!

While we can't see the opposite side of the island in the photo, I imagine it contains utensil drawers, under-counter cabinets, probably a dishwasher, while the outer side (what we can see) holds decor objects and books — items you're more likely to see in a living room! The overall effect makes the kitchen feel like a natural extension of the living room, rather than a separate cooking area.

What do you think about this two-sided kitchen island?
