Take a look at this big chandelier, the centerpiece of a new grilled cheese restaurant on New York City's Lower East Side. Do you see what it's made out of? Yes, cheese graters! Click through for another photo...
This chandelier was built by the owners of this new little restaurant. It's made of dozens of old-fashioned metal cheese graters lashed together and with bulbs in sockets placed inside.
This is a rather delightful idea, and while you may not want a chandelier this size in your kitchen, something on a smaller scale could be easily hacked. Cheese-lovers, what do you say?

I love this for a grilled cheese place! Plus from underneath it reminds me of the "Close Encounters" ship. Maybe they should serve mashed potatoes, too.
My sister once made a lantern out of a cheese grater for a night art walk/parade and hung it from a spatula. I also seem to remember a how-to for a cool-looking colander table lamp in one of my dad's old 'Nomadic Living' books from the 70s.
cool, but i would not want to sit under that! ouch!
Cute concept, but maybe this one should be labeled "Don't try this at home."
Great idea, very clever. I also like that window panel with all the cheese names... Too bad they misspelled "Stilton" and "Taleggio"... :D
