My mother never uses the built-in egg tray in the refrigerator door. My mother-in-law has and will always keep her eggs in a bowl on the counter, while my roommate used to keep them in the fridge in a tupperware container. The question is, where do YOU keep them?
Although we all have our different ways of doing things, most are inspired out of necessity. Different living situations breed different instinctive behavior.Where do you keep your eggs? In the carton? In the fridge? In a sack under your bed? (Well, hopefully not, but you get the idea.) What are your reasons for storing them there?

in the carton
I keep them in the carton in the fridge... My mom has told me that fresh eggs can be left out, but once refrigerated, they need to stay refrigerated. Has anyone else heard this or know if it's true?
If they're from the supermarket, they go in the refrigerator. If they are farm eggs, I leave them out in a bowl.
i just keep them in the carton and but it wherever there is room in the fridge!
what would the point of taking them out of the carton be? Seems like a waste of time...
I didn't really notice a difference when I allowed my eggs to sit a day out on the counter before use; the only bad egg I've had in the last ten years came straight from the carton in the fridge and all it's friends were fine.
Yea I'm not too sure why one would take them out of the carton to begin with. Once purchased I usually stick them in the fridge, I typically use them within a week and have had no issues with freshness.
Fresh eggs can be left out, but since we live in a hot climate I refrigerate them too.
I just use the carton. I take it (empty) to the farmer's market and they refill it for me, then back it goes.
In the carton in the fridge
Eggs on the counter would never fly with the S.O., but even if it would, I'd still keep them in the fridge. They will last longer, and more importantly, they're out of the way.
In the cardboard carton in the fridge. I refuse to buy eggs in styrofoam cartons. Not only are they horrible for the environment - they're so flimsy!
Fridge eggs last FOREVER. I will use eggs even after the use by date on them, although I always crack them separately if they are past the date, just to make sure none are spoiled.
We raise our own eggs (well...the chickens do but you get my point) and they go from basket to recycled egg carton in fridge. Our basement with its oil furnace is too warm but as soon as our root cellar is dug I plan to keep them there in a bowl.
We have friends who lived in Central America and they kept their (always unwashed) eggs on the counter.
I keep them in the carton in the fridge, but I frequently bring them backpacking. Even after a week unrefridgerated they're fine; so Rasmugirl you probably don't have anything to worry about!
I keep mine in the fridge in the box to keep them at a constant temperature (which is what they need to stop them going bad, no matter if that's room temperature or fridge temperature). Anyway, once I left them out on the side, and my coffee press fell out the cupboard onto them - and I concluded they were safer in the fridge, away from my clumsiness!
I keep them in the fridge in a carton on the shelf, I get them from the "egg woman" down the road and I never had one go bad. And the price is swoon worthy - a dozen for 2 bucks!
not that i bother but isn't the reason for putting them in a tupperware container due to the fact that they will easily absorb other odours from the fridge? i keep mine on the counter in the kitchen but thats because i live in the uk and my kitchen is always cold!
I buy eggs 2 dozen at a time, and since the carton is so huge I put them in an egg-holder with tall sides. I also think it's prettier than just a plain old carton :)
We just went to Belize in Feb. and EVERYBODY there keeps their eggs unrefridgerated, even the grocery stores sell them unrefridgerated. I was amazed by that just as much as seeing Mayan ruins. Heh.
We give the eggs a good wash and then into the fridge they go. We use the built-in egg tray.
It is best for eggs to remain at a constant temperature, so if they were refrigerated upon purchase, then they should be put back in the fridge as soon as you get home. There's no harm in leaving them on the counter at room temperature if they weren't refrigerated when you bought them. The change in temperature encourages bacterial growth.
Some people choose not to use the egg holders that come with fridges, this is because items placed in the door are subject to the most changes in temperature (during opening/closing). This isn't too much of a problem, as long as you don't open your fridge for five minutes staring at the contents. Eggs are fine in the carton, it is designed to protect the eggs so leaving them in there is okay. Just make sure they don't get shoved to the back of the fridge where it is coldest, otherwise you will get a couple of frozen eggs (still edible though)!
In the carton in the refrigerator.
I get farm eggs and the color depends on breed of the hen. I can't taste any difference.
In the UK eggs are sold unrefridgerated but I always refridgerate mine in the carton.
Friends, there is no D in refrigerator!
