Live Edge Wood in the Kitchen

I love the second one. The juxtaposition of the ultra-modern butting up against the rustic charm of the wood is striking. I'd love to achieve this level of chicness!

Every time I see a live edge pieces like these is that it is a pale imitation to a George Nakashima.

Feel a little closed-in by the overwhelming woodiness of #3 though.

Absolutely love the look, but in my experience with truly RAW edged wood, bark and all, upkeep is impossible without looking pretty shabby really fast.

I just saw that someone posted this photo on Pinterest so found the source here: the second photo is my kitchen! We absolutely love our counter / kitchen--and in response to Virtuelsie, it's not hard to keep looking great. We used a food-grade oil for the finish and have yet to have to reapply (even after 4 years). Big thanks to John at Regeneration Design for his awesome kitchen design (more photos of the kitchen on his Projects page)....
