Resolution: License my Kitchen Invention!
Here's what Joe says about his goal...
My resolution: I've co-invented an LED Cocktail Strainer. I am currently running a crowd funding campaign to try to raise cash for our new invention. We've only got 24 days left! Your readers can help us reach our goal to bring light and entertainment to pouring drinks while entertaining friends and guests by contributing at indiegogo.com/volt. We want to do a small production run and then search for an company to license the invention to!
Thanks, Joe! Readers, do you have any advice or suggestions for him?

TW Salt Mill by Wil...

Take it on Shark Tank!
Lets see...I don't see this being used in a cocktail bar/lounge that prides itself on classic cocktails.
Will this be something used at clubs to wow the general audience? Because everything else in there will be...
Doesn't offer any benefit in mixing a drink other than falsely coloring it with light...last I checked the cocktails I make that don't use vodka look beautiful already.
Good luck with funding though.
I like how you turned your marketing effort into a resolution to justify posting it here.
The next time I find myself mixing cocktails in a blackout I'll wish I had one of these.
Maybe.
Its neat looking, but a novelty that will likely soon wear off. Good luck anyway :)
Wow! I didn't realize my fellow readers were so quick to criticize!
I've seen more ridiculous things on sale at Urban Outfitters - I don't see why a novelty item is automatically a bad thing. I have a really cute cheese grater that's shaped like a mouse, measuring cups shaped like russian nesting dolls, and a few other novelties in my own kitchen (a bit unnecessary, but fun!). Why wouldn't a lighted cocktail strainer do well in a club setting ? (I don't think clubbers ordering appletinis are that concerned with classic cocktails.)
Good luck to you on your financing! It seems to me with all the novelty items out there, yours would be a big hit at clubs!
Why be so nasty? He came up with this idea and even made one (maybe? I can't really tell from the photo if it's real or cgi now that I'm looking closer). What have you done with your ideas, critics? There are all sorts of crazy things out there and people make a ton of money selling them. I was kind of taken aback by the "give me money" aspect of this post, but that's not the inventor's fault. AT didn't have to post it.
I had to do a double take because I thought I was looking at dentures under a black light.
Yeah, for a second I thought I was looking at a picture, taken from below, of a skull barfing into a cup under a black light.
Though now that I think of is, a skull strainer would be way cooler to me than an LED strainer.
Hello All,
I'm the inventor and just wanted to say thanks for all the comments! Even the negative comments provide good inital feedback and learning opportunities for myself as a product developer.
Quinn the Eskimo - someday we hope to go on shark tank! If we went now Mr. Wonderful would eat us alive since we don't have any sales yet!
Nay Kuhn - Its definetly geared towards the club scene, specifically our real target market is the flair bartending community. The guys who do all the crazy bottle flipping stunts and such!
Theo - Ouch... Its my 2013 resolution and it fits in the kitchen category... I understand your frustration I suppose though... My resolution is a little different than most that were posted.
SilverFire4200 - I hope VOLT becomes an indespensible tool in the club scene! I agree, It's definetly a unique novelty if nothing else. Although I'm not sure I agree about the wear off quickly comment :)
Froggermario - you get it! I love that you see this the same we do! Thanks for the kind words too. We're geared towards the club scene for sure.
Tinka777 - Thank you for the kind wordss as well. This is the real deal, no cgi. We've been through at least 10 design revisions to get to this point. As for the "give me money" aspect were essentially pre-selling the product with the crowd funding. You donate so much cash and you get one of the first ones off the production line! Provides funding for the little guys like me and guarantees a first in line seat for the product.
Akay and holler - Your comments have highlighted that we CANNOT use this as a cover photo in the future! Its not clear to all what our product was.
Keep the comments coming everyone, I Love It!
@ JoeBuck35: I too was taken aback by the request for investment cash. Considering you only joined AT 2 days ago, it reeked of spam, however well-disguised. Then I noticed Cambria posted two days prior to you joining. Are you a personal friend, perhaps?
That said, I'm in no position to make an educated guess as to whether or not this becomes an indispensible tool in the club scene. However, even if it IS a passing fad, the potential exists to earn enough to fund your next invention(s). Simply put, I admire you for following through on your idea whatever the result. And 'failure' is simply success turned inside out. Every cloud had a silver lining & all that...
Be encouraged with your endeavors. And yeah....rework that cover photo. My first impression was teeth as well. Praying my honesty (bluntness?) comes across as helpful rather than harsh. Blessings on you.
