We are always on the hunt for great winter salads and slaws. In fact, winter may be one of the best times for salads! We love all the crunchy combinations of winter vegetables with fresh winter citrus. Here's one more recipe for a winter slaw from reader Jennifer; she tosses convenient slaw mix from Trader Joe's with a homemade blend of miso paste, rice vinegar, ginger, and garlic.
Jennifer also shared her great recipe (and photo!) for Killer Blondies last week. Thanks Jennifer!
Miso Slaw
Miso dressing
1/3 cup rice vinegar
3 tablespoons yellow or red miso
3 large garlic cloves, peeled
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons chopped fresh ginger
2 teaspoons sesame oil
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup mayonnaise
Mix everything in a blender.
Salad ingredients
1 package Trader Joe's broccoli slaw
1/2 bunch green onions, chopped
4 cups chopped spinach
1/2 cup finely chopped roasted almonds
Mix dressing and salad ingredients in a large bowl. Garnish with almonds and chill.
Thanks so much for this recipe, Jennifer!

What about listing the ingredients for the TJ mix to help the people that don't have Trader Joe's in their area?
@JessMess: Contains organic shredded broccoli stalk and organic shredded carrots (http://www.thedailyplate.com/nutrition-calories/food/trader-joes/organic-broccoli-slaw).
I get so sad whenever I see a recipe calling for a Trader Joe's product. I love TJ's, and not only isn't there one in Austin, but there is not one in all of Texas! Sheesh...
Anyway, I love miso and this recipe sounds delicious. I can't wait to try it with some of the local broccoli slaw mix.
Don't worry, I'm pretty sure that broccoli slaw is broccoli slaw.
I understand your predicament, @devildoll. I live in the UK--I've never even been to a Trader Joe's. :( One day, perhaps.
But this slaw looks easy to make and I'm sure that the dressing would be nice on any combination of broccoli, carrots, cabbage, and the like. Recently, I've been getting lots of cabbage in my weekly veg box and I made cabbage dishes every night to use it all up. Spicy Asian coleslaw is such a wonderful way to eat cabbage.
I made this last night with beets instead of spinach and no almonds, and it was really yummy! This will definitely be one of my simple go-to recipes!
For those without TJ's - the slaw is just shredded carrots and broccoli stalks. I plan on making it myself after my next visit to my produce mart.
Made this tonight - but cut the olive oil almost completely as it is a bit strong with the other dressing ingredients (used canola instead)- plus, as was not shopping at Trader Joe's improvised with salad ingredients. A very versatile dressing that would be great with grated fennel also.
I will add my lament about TJ's...didn't know how good I had it when I lived in LA...now I have to drive an hour and a half to Chapel Hill, NC to Trader's (But at least we have one...). This salad looks yummy!
