Lamingtons, known affectionately in my household as "coconut squares," are made into cupcakes. Lovely! (And less work-intensive.)

Straw Mat from The ...

Mm, that napkin folding is kind of cute...but when you put silverware in it like that, you can't tell what it is supposed to be.
What's so "affectionate" about calling them coconut squares? They are square and they have coconut on them.
Yeah that grated on me too, RosieGreenie, for some unknown reason. They are square and they have coconut on them.
Also, I'm not sure why you wouldn't just call them by their real name, and I can imagine going round to someone's place and having them offer me a 'coconut square' and me getting incredibly pissed off about it, because they're called lamingtons...
But then again that's why no one would invite me round to their place for 'coconut squares'...
Well then again French toast is known affectionately in my household as "stale bread fried in egg with cinnamon on top", and when someone says they want a Snickers we all get a twinkle in our eyes and laugh about the "chocolate bars with peanuts, caramel and nougat in them" (I've called them that ever since I was a kid and it just stuck). So I can't really point fingers.
