As we see more and more small kitchens in this year's Small Cool contest, we have been thinking about multi-use utensils and appliances, and the dozens of spoons and spatulas jammed in our kitchen drawers. Maybe we should trade a few in for one of these?
This straining ladle lets you scoop, strain, and pour. It could be used to scoop and strain small amounts of pasta, and to serve soup. This might take the place of all those slotted spoons and scoops in our drawers, or maybe it wouldn't work for any of those purposes at all.
What do you think? Helpful, over-designed, poorly designed, genius?

Seems good to me. I may make room.
P.S. I'm seeing it for less on other sites.
like it. same for less here ----> http://www.chefsresource.com/straining-ladle-amco.html
I was given one as a gift two years ago and have never used it. Maybe because I'm not a huge soup maker, maybe because I store it in an out-of-the-way place. The bowl is so darn big it doesn't fit in a drawer, nor does it fit in a utility jar without crowding it.
It doesn't look like it has enough holes to drain pasta that well. And I can't think of too many instances where I have something that needs to be both ladled and drained. It looks like a cool ladle, but I don't think it would replace a slotted spoon or skimmer.
My current favorite multi-taskers are the angled spatulas/ turners. The ones I have now are both Kuhn Rikon, one metal and one nylon for nonstick (found them for $7 at TJ Maxx), and they've allowed me to eliminate several other utensils. They are much more comfortable to use than the traditional rectangular turners, and the large slots make them more functional for things like draining (tho obviously unable to dig things from a deep pot). I still have the memory of the perfect nylon turner of this shape from college. Got put into the wrong box when sorting for a garage sale. I only hope that whoever walked away appreciates it as much (sniff). It was great for stir-frying, sauteeing, scrambling eggs, everything, and the shape of it made it just like an extension of my hand.
