We feel confident in saying that we know our way around a knife and are completely comfortable with even the finest mince. Unfortunately, maybe we were feeling a little too comfortable while chopping parsley, because we nearly cut our finger off. Now we're singing a bit of a different tune and think we may need to expand our options.

We're thinking that we may not have cut ourselves if we were using an herb chopper. They're designed specifically for fast chopping and help to easily break down herbs. A lot safer than using a standard knife!
Herb Choppers can be found in just about any specialty food store, and we came across the Kuhn Rikon Her Chopper in Williams-Sonoma. We've seen a lot of choppers that don't have an extended handle and we appreciate that this one does. It embraces the rocking motion it takes to break down herbs and also gives the option of using two hands.
The Kuhn Rikon Herb Chopper's blade is made from sharp high-carbon-steel, the handle from Polypropylene. The chopper is dishwasher safe and won't set you back too much!

I love this site and I read it everyday and this chopper looks quite handy. But there is one thing that is really really getting on my nerves lately. Who is writting these posts? Some mythical creature with two heads and four hands that keeps calling itself "we"? When I read that "we nearly cut our finger off" I feel like you forgot to add "my precious".
I have a bunch of the Kuhn Rikon knives which I love and use everyday, so I would be interested to see if anyone has actually bought this? It seems to be a single-use item and not an easy item to store.
Also- be careful buying their products if you have children! Bright colors make it seem like a toy!
i have one of these knives & i *love* it. the only problem is that it's so sharp i've cut my fingers more than once. (i know ... clumsy.) it really does come in handy for things like chopping herbs & mincing garlic.
I think Kuhn could have done a better job with their marketing photos. The way the chopper is being held does not really make it seem ergonomic or practical for an herb chopper. I would want a rocking design. Since the design is irregular, I suspect there's some thought to this but again, the pictures don't really demonstrate it. They show the user holding it just like a knife, which this is not.
Check out the video on the Williams-Sonoma page. Much better.
Just wondering if it's mandatory to always say "we" when writing these posts. It just seems weird to be saying "we nearly cut our finger off."
This post is just strange. I hope that it wasn't made in earnest, but rather to communicate to the powers that be that the royal we is incohate.
"We nearly cut our finger off"....harr harrr LOL ROTFL!!!
I think Kuhn Rikon is great. Their vegetable peeler, a three dollar item, is the best peeler I have ever used. That said, why would anyone buy this tool? It's awkward and seems inefficient.
I can't see myself buying this. It just strikes me as a uni-tasker. I'll stick with a knife.
It's Queen Victoria!
Either none of the management ever reads the "comments" or they really enjoy the way the readers go to town on the writers who post in the royal we. Perhaps there are food bloggers who pull it off, but this one can't. It just sounds remarkably pretentious.
I suspect that you are supposed to rest your left hand on the side. Until a few months ago, I would have said that a mezzaluna (a half-moon shaped blade with a round handle on each side) is the only way to go. But my sister just senT me Giada Delaurentis' Mezzaluna knife - love it!!! She set off quite a scare at boarder control at Fiumicino airport- apperently knives are not good to send in the mail! Giada's Mezzaluna knife does all the work of the mezzaluna and stores in your knife drawer!! Because let's face it... the most ridiculous part about this herb chopper is how you would store it without cutting, "all of your finger" off!

Why convince people to buy a needless kitchen gadget? All you need are a couple of good, sharp knives and correct form. Sure, if you're not paying attention by watching tv, or talking on the phone, or daydreaming, you'll cut yourself. That's why you keep your head down, eyes on what you're doing. Don't clutter your kitchen with this junk!
BTW, did you know that you can cut yourself on this too?!?!?!
For cutting herbs I just use a small pair of scissors. Goes much faster than anything else. This gadget is for kitchen gadget collectors only. Well that's what "we" over here think!
No unitasker will ever make it into my kitchen. ever.
There's also such a thing as the editorial "we," which is what's being employed here, to perfectly fine effect. It's not "incohate" (incoherent?) -- it's a literary device.
