Window treatments in the kitchen have a few more limitations than in the rest of the home: namely, that they be easy to clean. Often, we've foregone them all together. In the heat of summer, however, they can be really useful for blocking direct sunlight from the kitchen.
Here are a few ideas for window treatments that will provide a little shade while remaining cleanable in this hard-working room:
- Roller Shades: No-nonsense shades can roll up out of the way when you want a direct view out. And many shade materials can be wiped clean. check out the Shade Store for some options.
- Shutters: Cleanable and easily operable, shutters would definitely hold up to the wear and tear of the kitchen.
- Tea Towels: Hanging tea towels in the window puts to use something that's in the kitchen, anyway. And we all know they can easily be taken down and thrown in the wash!
