Have you see the house tour of Michele Varian's New York City loft yet? It has one of the most gorgeous, creative, and hand-crafted kitchen spaces we've seen in a long time.
Michele Varian runs her eponymous shop out of a storefront in SoHo. She has quite an eye for collections, and her home is stuffed with lovingly curated collections, accessories, framed prints, and other knick-knacks. But her kitchen isn't just about collecting; it's about making do with repurposed finds, and making your own creative furnishings too.
Michele actually built her countertops herself, clamping and gluing strips of wood together and then mounting them on inexpensive IKEA shelves that had been stained dark. Even though they were created from multiple pieces of wood, she says that she's proud to have made them look like single big slabs of old oak.
She also has many thrift store and flea market finds in the kitchen; we love the counter/breakfast bar, which is an old desk. The glass bottles over the stove are vintage fly catchers.
It's a lovingly created and maintained kitchen, you can tell. Take a look through the photos and visit the original house tour for more captions and the tour of the entire loft.

While I like certain elements, that space is just too eclectic and cluttered for me.
Love it!
cluttered? i guess being a total mess, i have a different idea of clutter. everything looks really neat and organized to me. i really like it. i wish i had a kitchen like that, but mine is actually cluttered.
It looks like a kitchen out of a Harry Potter novel; you can just imagine whipping up some tea and biscuits, plus a magic potion or two here.
Eclectic, for sure, but I wouldn't call this cluttered. It looks fascinating to me- the Harry Potter reference is spot-on! I wonder if she has house elves? :)
