Reader Hugo sent us photos of his recent kitchen remodel, and we are impressed. He took a small, cramped kitchen - not fun for any cook - and transformed it into an open space that accommodates more people, improves flow, and makes hospitality easier. Read on to see before and after photos - the transformation is really remarkable. We also have a short Q&A with Hugo below.

Q. Tell us what you did in your kitchen remodel.
A. This kitchen was an inspiration and a dream. The kitchen was an 8 x 8 with very little room to move around. We removed all the walls and created an open kitchen with enough space for 5 people. We added a dishwasher, hood, and built-in refrigerator. All the appliances are all GE profile.
6 months under construction but it is finally finished!
Q. What were your favorite parts of the remodel?
A. We added heated floors, granite countertops, solid wood cherry cabinets, glass tiles, GE Profile appliances, deep stainless steel sink and recessed lighting.
Q. How does the new space help you as a cook?
A. Well it is a focus point in the apartment and allows for great entertaining. 5 to 6 people can easily move around and still have room to cook. Unfortunately I'm not the best cook but my girlfriend's mom who used to be an executive chef truly admires the space.
Q. What was the first meal you cooked in your new kitchen?
A. My first meal was salmon with vegetables. I'm planning on taking some cooking lessons soon.
Thanks Hugo!

What a lovely kitchen. Your cabinets are so nice and streamlined. Are they from a readily available source, or are they custom? I like the overall simplicity, with the color provided by the backsplash.
GORGEOUS backsplash.

Thank you for your comments, the cabinets were custom made to my specs by Thomasville.
Hugu,
Great renovation job. You have improved the space immensely! I was curious if you hired a contractor to do the renovation or if you did the work yourself. Im looking to renovate my kitchen and need to go the custom cabinet route as well. How much did the Thomasville cabinets run?
beautiful job!
Like beige much?
Thanks
I had the cabinets made in Cherry wood with solid backing panels. about $6K for all with soft close options and SS handles.
I forgot to answer,
I hired a contractor to do the work, this was just a bit too much and out of my league plus the board requires that all work be done by licensed contractors.
ps. I like earth tones, sands, yellows, reds....
Did you like your contractor? Would you recommend him to others? Im desperatly trying to find a recommended contractor in New York!!!
Thanks!
bohinks,
Yes my contractor was such a professional, he covered all the rooms with plastic and kept a super clean work area. He also has done the bathroom.
Overall I've had a great experience with my contractor and would definitely recommend.
HSB,
could you provide me with your contractor's name and number?
Thanks!
bohinks,
Please email me at hsbaeza@gmail.com I will be more than glad to give you his information.
