As we enter the last week of a month devoted to Home Hacks, we thought we'd pull together some resources for anyone who's thinking of undertaking a kitchen organization project.

Etsy (Online): Etsy stores are a good place to look for vintage and handmade plate racks. When you're shopping, search for terms like "vintage kitchen organizer," "plate rack," or "pot rack."

IKEA (Various Locations/Online): The stainless steel Grundtal kitchen rails and shelves are hardworking, durable, and cheap. IKEA also has a large selection of basic containers and pantry organizers.

SimpleHuman (Various Locations/Online): Their kitchen organizers are a little more expensive than average, but they're well made, well designed, and come with 5-year warranties. You can find SimpleHuman products at big box stores like the Container Store and Bed, Bath, & Beyond.

Function Junction (Kansas City/Online): This independent Midwestern retailer has a good selection of pot racks, spice racks, and pantry organizers.

Solutions.com (Online): With an eye toward problem-solving organizational products, this catalog has some things that might be useful in the kitchen, like the clear acrylic magazine racks shown above.

Williams Sonoma (Various Locations/Online): Check the homekeeping section for some helpful organizational products. Prices are on the high end, but products are generally of high quality.

Container Store (Various Locations/Online): This ubiquitous store has a wide range of storage and organization products for pantries, including lots of wall-mounted designs. Make sure you know exactly what you want before you take a shopping trip there; its easy to get overwhelmed and distracted by all the shiny new stuff.

Hardware Stores: If you like the Julia Child-inspired idea of a pegboard in the kitchen, make your own with supplies from your local hardware store.

Overstock.com (Online): Look here for discounted pot racks, wall-mounted organizers, and pantry sorters. Quality and pricing can vary widely, so read the customer reviews for clues to a product's usefulness.

Cookware and More (Online): They specialize in Rogar pot racks, including ceiling and wall-mounted versions.

I'd also suggest Amazon.com. It's selection is really remarkable and there are so many things - even rather large things - that qualify for supersaver shipping or amazon prime.
I'd love a wall-mounted pot rack in our rental kitchen...but I am afraid the pots would dent/mark up the (standard white) walls. *sigh*
Nikki -- tack up a patterned piece of oilcloth or something similar behind the rack, which could both decorate and protect the wall? Or an unobtrusive strip of white or a dark or neutral color that complements the rack, to serve as a pot bumper. I don't know how picky your landlord is, but a certain amount of wear and tear and picture-hanging is expected by most.
thanks for that tip gretchen, i never even thought of that!
