Yesterday Emma talked about ramekins and their vast usefulness in the kitchen. Well, we all have a thing for ramekins here at The Kitchn. Some of us more than others...
I confess that I have perhaps a few too many ramekins, but I just find them so useful! I use them for beating eggs for one, as prep cups for cooking, and serving dishes for ice cream and pudding and yogurt, and... you get the idea. I have white ramekins, blue ramekins, yellow and red and green ramekins.
When I moved into my new kitchen I found that I had one cupboard that was impractically narrow and shallow for nearly everything I wanted to put inside. Then inspiration flashed: a ramekin cupboard!
Frankly, putting all my ramekins in that cupboard made me feel more at home in my kitchen than I ever had before. They look neat and put away, and I always know where I can find a little dish.
Do you have a special cupboard for any particular collections?

Floral Drink Dispen...

I have a small cabinet above a narrow strip of counter. I decided to put my coffee pot in that spot since it's not big enough for anything else. The cabinet above it has mugs, coffee, filters, sugar, teas, etc. It's great to have everything in one place, especially when I have guests. "It's in the coffee cabinet!"
i actually don't have but a few ramekins, but have found that using the tea cups that are part of my stoneware dish set are perfect for many of the tasks that others use ramekins for, like pre-measuring ingredients for recipes, whisking up one egg, serving ice cream or fruit, etc. We use the coffee mugs from the set for coffee, so i'm glad to have a use for the tea cups!
