In honor of our upcoming national holiday, here's a quick peek at a few kitchens that take red, white, and blue (but especially red!) to new heights in the home kitchen.
Red, white, and blue doesn't need to be kitschy; there are a lot of ways to make these all-American colors fresh and inspiring. We particularly love the first image in this series; so sharp and yet comfortable!
• 1 Red cabinets, charcoal backsplash - From Southern Living. This was the photo that inspired this post! Red cabinets, a blueish-grey backsplash, and clean open shelving. And IKEA storage, of course.
• 2 A splash of red - From Sunset. We love this teeny San Diego kitchen. Lots of light, and energizing red paint.
• 3 & 4 Charleston chic - From Cottage Living. All-American palette meets industrial details. Love the pale blue in the second peek.
• 5 Matt and Blair's Fresh Retro Kitchen - From our own archives, an all-American Midwest kitchen, done frugally with the original metal cabinets freshly painted. It's sparklingly fresh, with just the right touch of 1950s classic retro.
Do you use red, white, and blue anywhere in your kitchen?

Red-and-Pink-Stripe...

Anyone know where those wood open shelves are from in the first picture?
The third picture makes my heart skip a beat! Those vintage fans, the metal cabinet, the counter top, the splashes of red and that window! Swoon!
I have to say, I've always loved red, white, and blue in the home-- especially when it's a really light blue like in the third picture.
or fourth picture rather...
@OPK: Not sure whether they're purchased, but you can make shelves like that from any layered wood composite like Baltic Birch or an LVL. The glued layers make the wood much stronger than milled lumber.
That 3rd one is beautiful!
This is really wonderful!
I am really amazed when simplicity really strikes at its best.
Love the theme.
